The Department of Public Health Policy, School of Public Health, University of West Attica was established in 2019, however it originates and succeeds the National School of Public Health (law 4610/2019). As a matter of fact, the Departments’ staff working at the cutting-edge of public health has been offering postgraduate studies for 95 consecutive years, providing unique educational experience and expertise. Our graduates pursue careers in national and international public health organizations, Ministries, Prefectures
and other Public Health authorities.

The Department’s focus on excellence in Public Health Policy is reflected in four distinctive aspects of the program:
– Owing to its long tradition and reputation, the program attracts a strongly motivated, and diverse student body, which gives participants a realistic sense of the demands required to be at the top of the profession.
– The Program’s teaching is delivered by high-level faculty members and by qualified invited lecturers so that students are educated in a culture that engenders the highest professional standards in relation to Public Health discipline.

In this program knowledge derives from different scientific fields providing the student with basic skills in:
• public health, health education and promotion for the general population and especially for vulnerable groups (e.g.children, elderly people, immigrants)
• epidemiology, biostatistics, research methodology
• morbidity patterns and illness onset in modern society
• control and prevention of infectious and chronic diseases, accidents and addictions via the control of major risk factors
• practical public health through training in equipped specialized public health laboratories

• structure of public health services in national, European and global level
• media communication approaches in effective public health deliverables

Target audience of the Program
This Postgraduate Program is targeted at officers, professionals and executives from governmental bodies, organizations, private business and research institutes. Our graduates are provided with specialized knowledge in Public health protection, prevention and promotion, being able to contribute to the process of keeping Public health and Public services up-to-date. The Program’s graduates pursue careers in national and international public health organizations, Ministries, Prefectures and other Public Health authorities.
Program Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the program students should be able to demonstrate the following:
Knowledge and Understanding – a student will be able to:
• demonstrate specific knowledge of Public Health elements
• demonstrate an understanding of specific principles of Public Health and Public Health Policy
• show awareness of the standards and demands of the specific areas of Public Health
Subject-Specific Skills and Other Attributes – a student will be able to:
• analyze complicated public health issues and configure innovative practices based on population actual data and needs
• design programs and practices for effective implementation, which increase social benefit and decrease cost
• evaluate complicated, deficient or contradictory data and configure evidence-based alternative approaches for public health and services consultancy
• provide authorities’ political and administrative leadership with consultancy for design, implementation, observation and constant improvement of the relative indexes of public health policy
• implement “lege artis” research, contributing to update and enhancement of public health authorities
• execute figurative actions towards prevention of major risk factors that burden the health of total population and vulnerable groups
• call into question former perceptions and erase subjective borders to handle complicated issues globally
• apply modern resources to influence and support change and adaptation more efficiently
• present public health actions and programs to the general population, vulnerable groups and policy stake holders
• interact effectively with a wide range of experts in national and international level

Admittance
This MSc. program is open to graduates with a higher degree (National or European Universities) in Health, Biological, Agricultural, Environmental, Social, Law, Political sciences and humanities, that fulfill the entrance requirements.
Number of Students accepted
In the MSc. program a maximum of 50 students is enrolled every year:
1st Specialization: up to 20 students
2nd Specialization: up to 10 students
3rd Specialization: up to 20 students
