Medical Biopathologist

Dr. Ioanna Spiliopoulou is a medical biopathologist. She received her B.Sc. (Medicine) from the Medical School of Patras. In 2007 she became a State Accredited Specialist in Medical Biopathology. She holds a master’s degree in Public Health – Infectious Diseases from the National School of Public Health and a doctorate from the Faculty of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Since 2007 she has been working at the National Public Health Organization (formerly KEELPNO) at the Central Public Health Laboratory. She was Deputy representative of the National Reference Center for E. coli O157 in the EU (2008-2010). Since 2009, she is Head of the Microbiological Water Analysis Laboratory. From September 2021 she specializes in Public Health Microbiology within the ECDC Fellowship Programme, Public Health Microbiology path (EUPHEM), MS-track cohort 2021 (2021-2023).
She has participated in scientific committees and working groups related to water for human consumption and the official recognition of natural mineral waters. She has many announcements and presentations at scientific Greek and international conferences and 12 publications in Greek and international journals. She has participated in teaching clinical courses and gave lectures as an invited speaker at international conferences and workshops. Dr. Spiliopoulou participates from 2016 onwards in the teaching of the course “Environmental Microbiology of Public Health” and in the theoretical training of Public Health MSc students at the Department of Public Health Policy (former National School of Public Health), School of Public Health, University of West Attica, regarding issues of microbiology / water legislation.
