How can I contact the Secretariat of the MSc Program?

The Department Secretariat supports students both during their studies and after they graduate. The Department Secretariat can be contacted in the following ways:
 
a) electronically: mdy@uniwa.gr by asking your questions or requests. Certificates are issued both from the Secretariat and from the Student Portal.
 
b) by phone: +30-213-2010207 and
 
c) physical presence, by appointment and in accordance with all the necessary measures to avoid the spread of the coronavirus – COVID 19, of the National Public Health Organization (use of mask, distances).

Can a working student attend the MSc Program?

The MSc Program schedule is especially designed to allow working students to attend the courses. Classes are held two (2) non-consecutive three days a month, Tuesday to Thursday (afternoon) and Friday (afternoon) to Sunday (noon).

What is the Student Register?

It is a portal: https://services.uniwa.gr/ for students and professors, where it is possible to create a profile for each student (Name, Registration Number, Department, etc.), to register students in courses per semester of study from the MSc Program Secretariat, for submitting applications for certificates (e.g. certificate of studies, grades, etc.), as well as the display of the student’s graded courses. The portal provides the possibility for every student to find all the information related to her/his studies, as well as to submit various requests electronically.

Is it mandatory to prepare a MSc Thesis?

Yes. The preparation of the MSc thesis is mandatory and is completed in the 4th semester. With a reasoned request, an extension for two additional semesters can be granted. You will find more detailed information regarding the preparation of the MSc Thesis in the Study Guide, on the MSc Program website.

Whom can I contact to find out more about the ERASMUS+ program?

You can contact the Departmental Coordinator for the Erasmus program (Georgios Koulierakis gkoulierakis@uniwa.gr) or his Deputy (Theodoros Fouskas tfouskas@uniwa.gr). Moodle platform

The Moodle @ West Attica platform is an e-courses portal, where educational material is posted for each course, it is possible to be updated through announcements by the teaching faculty, submit assignments, and take exams. The platform can be accessed by registering at: https://moodle.uniwa.gr/. A necessary condition for registration is that users have an institutional account (email@uniwa.gr). Students log in through their institutional account.

Academic Identity Card

The application for an academic identity card (student pass) is submitted by the students electronically to the Academic Identity Service of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs: https://academicid.minedu.gov.gr/, after completing registration and after the granting of a registration number and electronic Institutional codes. The new identity card has strong features of mechanical resistance, and security against forgery. In addition, it is designed to be valid for as many years as the student status lasts, and to cover multiple uses, in addition to the Student Ticket (Pass). The new academic ID cards state the exact period of validity of the right of the Student Ticket. In the event that the student is not entitled to a Student Ticket, the card serves as a simple identity card.

Can a working student attend the MSc Program?

The MSc Program schedule is especially designed to allow working students to attend the courses. Classes are held two (2) non-consecutive three days a month, Tuesday to Thursday (afternoon) and Friday (afternoon) to Sunday (noon).

I work shifts and/or Saturday/Sunday. Will I be able to attend the classes?

The three-day program of the MSc courses is announced by the MSc Program Secretariat well in advance, so that working students can arrange their work obligations.

Can students attend the program remotely?

The MSc courses are carried out with a combination of modern distance teaching (at a rate of 35%) and hybrid teaching (simultaneous live and distance teaching). The Infectious Diseases – Laboratory Public Health Specialization courses of the 2nd and 3rd Semesters are held live at the School of Public Health, on the three days Friday-Saturday-Sunday.

I live outside Athens. Can I participate in the MSc Program?

The schedule of the MSc program courses is specially designed to allow the attendance of the courses by students living outside Athens. The MSc courses are carried out with a combination of modern distance teaching (at a rate of 35%) and hybrid teaching (simultaneous live and distance teaching). The Specialization courses of the Infectious Diseases – Laboratory Public Health specialization in the 2nd and 3rd Semesters are held live at the School of Public Health on the three days Friday-Saturday-Sunday.

Is it possible to make absences?

Attendance at classes is mandatory and late arrival or early departure of students should be avoided. A postgraduate student is considered to have sufficiently attended a course (and therefore has the right to take the exam) if he/she has attended at least 75% of the teaching hours of the course.

Can I see the course schedule before submitting the application to participate in the MSc Program?

The indicative course schedule is posted on the MSc Program website. In addition, you will find the course schedule for the current semester posted.

Is it possible to study part-time?

There is no possibility of part-time studies. The program is full-time.

What is the expected duration of studies?

The duration of studies for the awarding of the MSc degree is defined in four (4) academic semesters, three academic semesters of teaching and one academic semester dedicated to the preparation of the Master’s Thesis, which lead to a total of one hundred and twenty (120) credits (ECTS).

Is it possible to suspend or extend the MSc study time?

At the beginning of each semester, the student has the possibility to submit an application for suspension of his/her studies for a period of up to 2 academic semesters. The possibility of suspension is defined by the Study Regulations of the MSc Program.
 
In addition, the student has the possibility to submit an application for an extension of the preparation of his MSc thesis for a period of up to 2 academic semesters. The possibility of extending the preparation of the thesis is referred to in the Regulation of Studies of the MSc Program.

If one or some of the supporting documents I will submit have been issued by a foreign University/s, do I have to submit official translations of them as well?

If a degree has been obtained abroad, its official translation and a certificate of recognition from the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center (DOATAP) are required.

In case of lack of a language certificate, what procedure is followed?

In the event that the candidates do not possess the relevant evidence of language proficiency, the proficiency in the English language for the needs of the MSc Program will be assessed on the day of the interview.

What is the cost of the MSc Program?

The tuition fees amount to €3,200 (three thousand two hundred euros) and are paid in eight installments of €400 (four hundred euros). The first installment is paid upon registration in the MSc Program. The remaining seven (7) installments are paid on two specific dates in each semester that are communicated to students at the start of their studies at the MSc Program.

How are tuition fees paid?

Tuition fees are paid by depositing the amount into the bank account of the Special Research Funds Account, which is notified during registration at the MSc Program.
 
The first installment is paid upon registration in the MSc Program. The remaining seven (7) installments are paid on specific dates that are communicated to students at the start of their studies at PMS.
 
In case of waiting to receive a scholarship and exemption from tuition fees, the student may not pay the tuition fees, until notification of the relevant decision.

Regarding the registration process, if I am interested in a tuition fee waiver, do I have to pay the first installment and then apply for a tuition fee waiver?

Upon enrolment, you must submit a Tuition Fee Waiver Application if you consider that you meet the criteria set out in the Regulation and the Hellenic Universities Act.
 
While generally the first installment is paid upon registration at the MSc Program, in case of waiting to receive a scholarship or exemption from tuition fees, the applicant is not required to pay tuition fees, until notification of the relevant decision.

Are scholarships provided?

There is no institutionalization of the granting of scholarships, but students can submit a relevant application, which is examined by the MSc Program Coordinating Committee. The purpose is to give scholarships based on social criteria as well as due to excellence.
