History

The “MSc in Public Health” of the Department of Public Health Policy (former National School of Public Health, former Athens School of Health, established in 1929) is the first MSc Program in Greece with the title “Public Health” and one of the first Programs in Europe in the field of Public Health. It was founded in 1981 (PD 1233 FEK306 issue A’/16-10-1981) and has more than 2,000 graduates, many of whom have held key and high-ranking positions in public health institutions for decades, participating in decision-making related to important public health issues, as well as positions as faculty members in national and foreign universities.

The MSc Programs of the former National School of Public Health were evaluated in 2011 by the Authority for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ADIP) (External Evaluation Report).

The Department of Public Health Policies, responding to the modern educational needs of public health staff and to the Strategy of the University of Western Attica, was re-established in the academic year 2020-2021 (Official Government Gazette 3988 issue B’/17-9-2020) with English title “MSc. in Public Health”.
